Green Economic Development in Varin
The Green Economic Development is a Cambodian Community Based Organization (CBO) that commenced in 2013 by supported the establishment under Regional Economic Development II (RED II) Programme with German technical assistance support such as provided capacity development, and financed until end RED III phase out end of 2017. The GED Unity is allocated in the territory and success-fully implemented within the district of Varin, Siem Reap province and with cooperation with other CBOs in Puok and Angkor Chum.
Regional management (one district = 1 region) is a new approach to develop economy that complement the district development plan in the mandate of district administration. It is a process for local active stakeholders to bring their ideas to seek for partners from civil society, private and public sectors in order to make these ideas become practically applicable.
Regional management is implemented by the Regional Economic Development Program – Green Belt in Siem Reap province. This program is implemented by the Royal Government of Cambodia technically supported by GIZ of Germany.
In February 2013, the workshop was set up with participation from the three district partners (Puok, Angkor Chum and Varin district) to find a mechanism to decide on the organizational forms and the whole meeting decided to set up a working group committee and road map to establish these three organizations. Therefore, on May 2013, The three CBOs were established and called “.Organization To Promote Local Economic Development in Puok” (OPLED PUOK) for Puok district, Organization To Promote Economic Development in Angkor Chum” (OPED ANGKOR CHUM) for Angkor Chum district, and Green Economic Development Community of Varin (GED.unity Varin) for Varin district, Siem Reap province.

Our mission is to develop capacity, facilitate networking, promote the local economy and link with other stakeholders with economic practitioners to increase income generating activities, products and to make their income stable.
